Pampering Your Skin

Skincare is definitely very important to me as I have gotten older.

In my younger days, I would put off washing my face regularly and I would not follow a skincare routine because I was insanely lazy. Since I did not take care of my skin, it reflected accordingly: I had many blemishes and discolouration on my skin. I had bangs at the time - this definitely did not help me! Underneath my bangs, I had a lot of pimples. I was quite insecure when I was younger due to my skin. I also did not drink that much water when I was younger, which did not help my case.

Jumping to the present, I take care of my skin and my efforts resulted in great skin. I do have some days where I get a pimple here and there but my skin is clear for most of the time.

In the morning, I immediately drink a glass of water after brushing my teeth. Water is your best friend when it comes to achieving better skin. It is recommended that an individual drinks eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day, which is equivalent to 2 liters or half a gallon. I drink about 4 liters or more which is great because it flushes out the toxins in my body and also helps me achieve better skin. The many glasses of water are well worth the numerous and frequent bathroom trips.

After drinking a glass of water, I use my Hydrating Cleansing Foam with Green Tea from Innisfree to wash my face.

USD $9.00 | 150.00 mL

I personally do not like face cleansers that make my face feel "squeaky clean" after washing because my skin feels dry and no longer moisturized. This one from Innisfree cleanses your face well and leaves your skin feeling so soft and hydrated.

Some other great face cleansers I have used before are the Perfect Whip from Senka and the White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam from Shiseido. These two cleansers are very similar to the Innisfree one because it keeps your skin feeling moisturized after cleansing.

As for the price point, the Innisfree and the Senka cleansers are both USD $9.00 and you get a great value for the price. Meanwhile, the Shiseido cleanser is $40.00 and it only has 139.00 mL of product, which is on the pricier side. All three of these cleansers did not break my skin out and strangely, they have rather cleared my skin up.

When I cleanse my skin, I squeeze a dime-sized amount of product out and I later it onto my skin. I gently scratch the cleanser and rub it on my skin. I noticed that this step definitely cleared up my acne and other blemishes.

After cleansing my skin, I use my Tonique Confort Re-Hydrating Comforting Toner with Acacia Honey.

USD $26.00 for 200 mL | USD $52.00 for 400 mL

I prefer the 400 mL because go big or go home, right? The bottle is huge and it will last you a long time. This toner feels amazing when applied on my skin. It does not have a sticky feeling. It feels silky and lightweight on your skin. It also makes your face feel very moisturized. The scent smells lovely and is not too overpowering. Many people recommend this toner for individuals with dry skin!

After applying toner, I use my Rénergie Lift Multi-Action Lifting and Firming Moisturizer Light Cream from Lancôme

USD $99.00 for 1.7 oz | $119.00 for 2.6 oz

I was given this moisturizer from Lancôme as a gift and I absolutely love it! The cream does not feel heavy on my skin. It is very lightweight, yet very moisturizing. The texture is very creamy and makes my skin feel super smooth. This moisturizer also makes your skin feel firmer!

I do sheet masks a few times per week to make my skin look even more radiant and moisturized. I really enjoy using My Real Squeeze Sheet Masks from Innisfree. I do like masks that you can wash off or peel as well but sheet masks are the easiest for me and they make my skin feel more moisturized.

Each mask has a different purpose and I love them all. In particular, I really enjoyed the Rose, Green Tea, Aloe, Honey, and Tea Tree sheet masks.

Some other tips from my experience

1. Drink a lot of water and tea
Water made a dramatic difference to my skin and my health. My skin cleared up and I lost weight from drinking mostly water and tea. I recommend green tea. I also enjoy barley tea or roasted rice tea.

2. Avoid greasy and spicy foods and chocolate
Although greasy and spicy food: such as pizza, burgers, fries, and spicy dishes taste great, they are not great for your skin. You do not have to avoid them altogether but try to minimize the number of times you consume it. I have been avoiding most greasy food but I cannot avoid spicy food. I will have dishes that are spicy once a week and maybe pushing twice a week if I really crave it. When I was younger, I would mostly consume food that was unhealthy for me and my skin suffered - the lack of water also did not help me. Although many people say that consuming chocolate will make you break out is a myth, I definitely believe that chocolate makes you get acne. Every time I consume chocolate, I get a large pimple that forms underneath my skin the following day. I used to eat chocolate frequently but now I eat it rarely and only when I crave it a lot.

3. Follow a skin routine!
Routines can be tiresome but following a skin routine can dramatically change how your skin looks and feels. In the past, I would skip my skin routine from time to time and I would break out the following day. After a whole day of being outside, I would just remove my makeup with a makeup wipe and not double cleanse which results in potentially breaking out. Now when I get home, I always make sure to remove my makeup with a makeup wipe and then use my face cleanser to ensure that all of my makeup has been removed thoroughly. My skin is clear!

4. Try to avoid touching your face
This is one of the basics that almost everyone tells you but sometimes you forget. We have many germs on our hands even if we wash our hands or use hand sanitizer, there is always something on our fingertips. Scratching pimples or squeezing will only worsen them. Try to avoid touching your face too often.

Many of you have told me that I have "perfect" and radiant skin - this is how I achieve it! I hope that these tips were helpful for you!

Love,

Emily
